My temptations of the moment around books and reading.
Congratulations to Kristin Hannah for winning the 2024 Goodreads Choice Award in the historical novels category for her book The Women. This book left a strong impression on me and it is great to feel part of a large community who have had the same feeling about it.
I definitely have to catch up with previous books by Kristin Hannah and will definitely do next year.
The end of the year is always a time for looking back at a year of books and there are many platforms offering these overviews. I find that I tend to get notified of books that are similar to books I read before. Diving into recap lists is always a good opportunity to discover new authors, new books, new topics. I have looked through quite a few recently and here is a snapshot of the myriad of suggestions out there for the genres I read most.
The Book Riot has a good list the Best Mysteries, Thrillers and True Crime 2024 (thanks to Bob on Books for pointing me to that one). I also discovered a good resource in the Crime Read list of Best Debut Crime Novels of 2024.
For historical fiction, there is a long list for 2024 on Goodreads and I also liked the list drawn by the Walter Scott Prize for historical fiction. The Independent also offers a good list to get inspiration from.
And 2024 has also been a good year for cookbooks with many mouthwatering publications. I like the list by Delicious Magazine and the Happy Foodies have a nice one as well.
And for an idea of what your fellow readers are eagerly awaiting for 2025, you can look at the Goodreads Readers’ Most Anticipated Books of 2025. Quite a few in this list, and for different reading tastes. And specifically on food, the Happy Foodies are telling us what to look forward to for next year.
And for those of you who are finally slowing down for a little Christmas break and are now looking for some feel good Christmas novels, you will find plenty to choose from on this list created by Goodreads.
I better stop now because my head is buzzing and my reading list is going to explode…again!
If you have great lists to share, I would love to discover them.
