Misarana (Eddie Scott)

When I read the blurb about this book, it sounded really original and very special. Then I started reading and I thought…wow! It is almost as if it was written for me.
I really enjoyed the background story that explains the fusion of British, French and Indian influences in this book. I am French, my husband is British and I love curries and spices. This book is definitely a nice source of inspiration.
I have tried some of the recipes like the Keralan mussels, the Punjabi cauliflower cheese, the duck and fennel cassoulet and the chai chocolate mousse. They were all absolutely delicious. The recipes are clear and the ingredients well listed and organised. There are nice pictures and a little bit of background for each recipe. Sometimes, it seems that the quantity and mix of spices is huge, but the result is just amazing. Always very balanced and not overpowering. I have sometimes reduced the chilli’s if I cook for kids. But the spice mixes always work just right.
A great book from all points of view. I have already gifted it twice and I keep telling everyone about it. And the nice thing is that there are still plenty of recipes in it that I want to make!
