I discovered Kate Mosse when reading The City of of Tears, which was volume 2 of the Burning Chambers saga. I enjoyed it so much that I decided to go back and read The Burning Chambers.
The first book starts in 1562 in Carcassonne, and sets the scene for this saga with the story of Minou Joubert and Piet Reydon. The background of the religious war in 16th Century France is extremely well researched and gives the story a solid historical basis. The story is captivating, the characters are strong and interesting.
I like the little touches of connection with South Africa. We keep finding them through the books and I cannot wait to see where this will take us. Probably in the fourth part of the story.
A brilliant book for all lovers of historical fiction.
